Peter Crouch has told Jesse Lingard to consider a permanent move to West Ham United and claimed that it could be a major bargain by David Moyes, should he get a deal over the line.
Lingard has been a revelation since joining West Ham on a half-season loan from Manchester United in January.
So far, the 28-year-old attacker has managed eight goals and four assists in only nine Premier League games under Moyes.
The Hammers boss has really succeeded in instilling a newfound confidence in the England international following a very difficult last few years at Old Trafford.
Still only 28 and with a year left on his contract with the Red Devils, a permanent move would absolutely appeal to West Ham.
And former Tottenham and Liverpool striker Crouch has claimed that the player himself should certainly seek an exit from Manchester and believes even a £20 million fee would represent a coup for the East Londoners.
He told The Daily Mail: “I think United will try to command £20m-plus. Even in this day and age, that would represent amazing value. Personally, I believe Jesse would be better off leaving. This fresh start has been fantastic for Lingard. It has also done him good getting away from the scrutiny in Manchester. I hope West Ham get that deal over the line.”
It’s still quite a big fee, that £20 million.
For a player with only a year left on his contract, the Londoners could try and knock down the price a little, but if that tactic winds up costing them the player this summer then West Ham fans will be absolutely livid with their club’s hierarchy.
