Callum Wilson has admitted to the Super 6 podcast that he was surprised that bigger clubs didn’t come in for him this summer, when told he should sign for Liverpool.
Adebayo Akinfenwa, who presents the podcast and is a big Liverpool supporter, spoke about how much he would like to see Wilson at Anfield.
And the Newcastle United front-man says that he was shocked higher placed clubs like Liverpool didn’t come in for him when he was available.
“I appreciate the honesty! Newcastle got me for £20 million. In the grand scheme of football, £20 million is a bargain for what I’m trying to do on the pitch,” he said.
“I’d have like to have thought there would have been more options from bigger teams, even as a second back-up.”
Wilson could actually have been a useful option for Liverpool to have, given their struggles going forward this season.
The England international is a very different option to Roberto Firmino, who leads the line for Liverpool right now, but he is a more natural goalscorer.
Wilson has hit 10 goals in 21 games this season, despite not always having the greatest service in Newcastle’s team.
Liverpool are likely to be looking for a new number nine in the summer, but whether Wilson will be a player who is considered by Jurgen Klopp’s side remains to be seen.
