Dejan Lovren has suggested to Sky Sports that he gets frustrated over a lack of playing time at Liverpool.
The Croatia international has managed only nine Premier League appearances for the Reds this season.
Consequently, there is speculation over his long-term future at Anfield and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is reportedly [Team Talk] willing to let him leave.
More recently, it was reported in Italy that the Premier League champions elect could include Lovren in a potential deal to sign Roma attacker Nicolo Zaniolo [Il Sussidiario].
And Lovren has given a non-committal response when asked about his future on Merseyside, insisting that he’s focusing on helping Klopp’s side to the league title and then uttering the ‘we’ll see what happens’.
He told Sky Sports: “Of course, it’s not the happiest moment when I see myself on the bench, but it’s the decision of the manager. I respect it and I am always the guy who will work 200 per cent behind closed doors.
“My goal is to play and to win as many trophies as possible. But at the moment the focus is just to win the next two games and be champions. After that we will see what happens.”
Liverpool probably wouldn’t miss Lovren, if we’re honest. It’s not because he isn’t a good player, because how would he last five years under the German manager if he was as poor as some fans believe?
It’s largely because Klopp has better options – Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip – and coming into the final last four or five years of his career, the 30-year-old, a £20 million signing in 2014, will want to be playing regularly.
