Reported Arsenal target Lorenzo Insigne has been valued pretty highly by his current club president at Napoli.
Lorenzo Insigne may have been linked with a £17million bid from Arsenal just last week, but it seems the Napoli star will cost quite a lot more than that…at least according to his club president Aurelio De Laurentiis.
The 23-year-old has impressed for Napoli, scoring nine goals and providing 11 assists last season, while dazzling with his all-round play. But despite the player’s agent saying he is flattered by Arsenal’s reported interest, it could be easier for Arsene Wenger to get his hands on the Holy Grail than on Insigne.
Inside Futbol quote De Laurentiis as telling Repubblica that Arsenal – or anyone else for that matter – will have to break the bank for the left winger.
When asked about the Gunners’ apparent interest the club president is quoted as saying, “€20million? That’s a joke, I hope.
“Lorenzo’s value is closer to €60 or €70million.”
Of course a club president is going to say something like that, and there is a habit of over-inflating prices in part to ward off potential suitors but also to reveal that any interested party will have to dig quite a bit deeper. But in the case of Insigne, you sense Arsenal may be wasting their time.
The player has a contract with his current club until the summer of 2018, and given the season he has just had Napoli would be crazy to part with him, or at least unless crazy money was on the table.
Wenger has shown that is not really his way, so unless the Frenchman springs a surprise this summer, do not expect to see the talented Italian in an Arsenal shirt just yet.
