Rangers boss Steven Gerrard should consider a move to bring talented ex-teammate Lazar Markovic to Ibrox.

Steven Gerrard must consider a move to bring an old teammate he once raved about to Rangers and give his career much needed shot in the arm.

In 2014 Lazar Markovic was one of Europe’s most sought after players, and Brendan Rodgers thought he had a bargain when he splashed out £20 million to bring him to Liverpool.

Markovic has struggled but remains under contract. The Liverpool Echo report this week Markovic will be sold for a ‘fraction’ of the figure he signed for, if there is a fee involved at all.

There is a potential of a loan move, and Rangers must go all in to land the Serbian on a bargain fee.

Markovic is a winger and a player who Gerrard raved about.

Speaking in 2014, Gerrard said, quoted by The Star: “He looks quick, pacy and he’ll get the fans on the edge of their seat.”‘

The Echo’s report claimed Anderlecht and Galatasaray were both interested, which in itself is nothing to scare rRangers off, especially when they have the Gerrard factor on their side.

Markovic is a great admirer of Gerrard, telling Squawka: “He is a legend, an icon, the king of the club. Yet still he is completely natural and normal.

“We all listen to him and treat him with the utmost respect. He welcomed me like a true captain and a great gentleman.”

Markovic could be the x-factor Rangers need to change games, and a move to Scottish football could benefit his career.

In recent seasons he has been loaned to clubs in Turkey, England, Portugal and Belgium.

A familiar face at Rangers could get the best out of the 24-year-old winger, who should be willing to come and compete with Daniel Candeias for a spot and show what he can do.
