Tim Sherwood has urged Everton and owner Farhad Moshiri to appoint Duncan Ferguson as their next manager following the sacking of Frank Lampard.
The former Tottenham and Aston Villa boss, who himself was asked if he would become Toffees manager, stated that someone like Ferguson would get the fans onside.
The key thing with Ferguson is that he knows the current crop of players inside and out, plus, he has been in the Goodison Park dugout before when they sacked the countless number of managers they have had.
Farhad Moshiri, the Everton board and the players are under serious, serious pressure as the club and the fans need picking up.
Names left, right and centre have been thrown about to possibly come in, including 51-year-old Sean Dyche, who was last in a job when he managed Sean Dyche.
Despite the Englishman being available, Sherwood thinks the Merseyside club should push for Ferguson, 51, instead, as he explained why on The Final Word on Premier League Productions (23/01/23 at 10:40 pm).
“For me, Duncan Ferguson,” said Sherwood. “When he stepped in before, he has always down a good job. He would give the fans the type of football that they demand and he would certainly get them onside.
“They need to get the connection from the pitch to the stands. They haven’t got that, at the moment. I think if Duncan goes in there, and gets them firing, then you know what it’s like.”
FERGUSON WOULD BRING AUTHORITY
One thing is for sure, this Everton group of players need a kick up the backside and someone like Ferguson would bring that in bucket loads.
The fans would sing his name all day long and he will also be very well known to the under-fire board and owner.
In that respect, he would be a very good appointment, but would the Scotsman’s lack of experience be a worry because, there is one thing coming in when you know you are just filling in, then it’s another being handed the keys full-time.
