LIV Golf is not without its flaws, but it is impossible to ignore how many quality players the PGA Tour has lost over the past four years.
The league pulled in several major winners. Phil Mickelson was one of the first big names to make the switch, opening the door for others. Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka both held the world number one ranking before they joined, while Cam Smith had just lifted The Open Championship trophy.
However, it was not just established stars making the move. Some younger talents also chose to sign on with LIV.
Joaquin Niemann had already picked up two PGA Tour wins before joining, and has since built a strong career in LIV.
But not everyone found immediate success. The player who led the PGA Tour in putting during the 2021-22 season did not quite hit those same heights after leaving.
The PGA Tour’s best putter in 2022 is still awaiting his first LIV Golf victory

Lucas Herbert has had most of his early success on the DP World Tour, picking up three wins including the Dubai Desert Classic in 2020 and the Irish Open a year later.
The Australian also claimed a PGA Tour victory at the 2021 Butterfield Bermuda Championship.
That season, he missed 10 cuts in 20 starts but managed to record a top-10 finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and posted top-20 finishes at both the PGA Championship and The Open.
It is still the only season where Herbert has played in all four majors.
He finished that year ranked number one for strokes gained putting, just ahead of Denny McCarthy in second place.
| Ranking | Player | Strokes gained putting |
| 1 | Lucas Herbert | 0.853 |
| 2 | Denny McCarthy | 0.818 |
| 3 | Brendon Todd | 0.781 |
| 4 | Tyrrell Hatton | 0.742 |
| 5 | Beau Hossler | 0.717 |
Since joining LIV, he has not quite shown the same form with his putter.
Lucas Herbert’s LIV Golf journey so far
Herbert made the switch to LIV Golf before the 2024 season, signing with Ripper GC. The move came just in time for a strong year from the team, which ended up taking home the Team Championship title.
On an individual level, Herbert had a solid year in 2025. He finished 15th overall, highlighted by a second-place finish in Mexico, where he shot an impressive final round of 10-under to secure his spot on the podium.
According to Data Golf, Herbert ranked 34th for strokes gained putting on LIV in 2025, losing 0.09 shots per round on the greens over the season. His driving was more of a positive note, placing him just inside the top 10 off the tee.
The drop-off is noticeable compared to his debut LIV season when he was second only to teammate Cam Smith with +0.74 strokes gained putting in 2024.
Herbert did pick up an International Series win earlier this year and still has plenty of time ahead of him – he does not turn 30 until December. Still, his form has dipped recently, with no finishes better than T25 over his last six starts.
Looking ahead to next year, there is every reason to expect improvement given his track record and ability.
