Arsenal target Jerome Boateng will not be signing a new contract at Bayern Munich, it has been reported.
Foot Mercato reported in April that the Gunners wanted to sign the World Cup-winning defender when the transfer window opens.
Mikel Arteta appears to be focusing on centre-back options and Boateng is one of the more high-profile names that they’ve been linked to.
And a report from Germany suggests that Arsenal have a good chance of getting him.
According to Kicker, Bayern will definitely not be offering the 31-year-old a new deal at the Allianz Arena, with his existing contract expiring next summer.
As a result, the German giants have made him available for transfer now rather than lose him on a free next year.
Arsenal fans will be split on Boateng, given his age, but the club’s hierarchy will probably be divided on him too.
That’s because he earns £200,000 per week in Bavaria [Sportekz] and that’s a huge financial commitment of over £10 million a year.
And with the economy the way it is right now amid the global health crisis, it might be a bit too steep for the North Londoners.
