Liverpool are now set to wave goodbye to Fabio Carvalho after just one season for the 20-year-old at Anfield.
Fabrizio Romano believes the Portuguese wonderkid is going to leave Liverpool this summer along with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita, while James Milner could also depart.
What’s the story?
Well, this is a bit of a shock, to say the least.
Speaking on his Here We Go podcast, Romano said: “I see Liverpool going for two or three midfielders because Naby Keita is out, Oxlade-Chamberlain is out and James Milner needs to decide on his future.
“Fabio Carvalho I am told is also leaving. We have to see what solution they will find but he is young and he is never playing so it is important to clarify these things.”
Liverpool only signed Carvalho back in the summer, spending £5m to take him away from Fulham following some outstanding performances in the Championship.
The Portugal Under-21 international has done well whenever Jürgen Klopp has called upon him, scoring a late winner in a 2-1 victory over Newcastle back in August, while also netting against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup.

However, Carvalho’s game time has well and truly dried up since the start of 2023.
The Liverpool No.28 has only played two minutes of Premier League football in 2023, with Klopp leaving him on the bench nine times in those 16 games – sometimes, he hasn’t even been named in the squad.
It is a very odd development, especially as The Athletic only recently revealed that Liverpool still have high hopes for the Portuguese prospect.
Liverpool should loan Fabio Carvalho
In our view, it would be a poor decision for Liverpool to offload Carvalho permanently.
The Torres Vedras-born wonderkid is a gem who can operate in a number of attacking positions, having lined up on the left as well as in the centre this season.
Romano seems to allude to Carvalho being the driving force behind his expected exit due to a lack of playing time.
If that is the case, Liverpool should try to convince him to go on loan first, as it would be a real shame for the Reds to let him go permanently only for the attacker to fulfil his potential elsewhere.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as anything could happen this summer.
