Ian Poveda has revealed to The Yorkshire Evening Post that he was anything but proud of his own performance on Sunday.

The Whites got their season back underway with a disappointing defeat away to Cardiff City, who ran out 2-0 winners.

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa gave Poveda a 13-minute cameo toward the end for what was his debut for the Championship club.

The 20-year-old joined United back in January but wasn’t in contention for the first couple of months, before the campaign was suspended in March.

That being said, although Poveda admits that he wasn’t pleased with his own performance, the former Manchester City youth is confident that there’s much more to come from him.

He told The Yorkshire Evening Post: “Regarding my performance I feel like I have a lot more to offer. I’m excited to keep improving and keep showing what I can do.

“My performance is not something I’m proud of, but I’m learning from it and I know what I can bring to the team. I’ll just keep working hard and pushing on.”

Bielsa’s side are back in action at Elland Road on Saturday for a huge visit of Fulham.

And it’ll be interesting to see if the Argentine gives his rarely-seen addition a second bite of the cherry.
