The Mali striker has been in fine form for Troyes.

Aston Villa spent big in the summer in a bid to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking. One of the players they signed was Jonathan Kodjia.

The Ivory Coast international arrived from Bristol City, where he had been a star following a move from French side Angers.

This summer, Villa should bring in a player who could be the next Kodjia, but at a much lower price.

Ligue 2, the French second tier, has seen its defenders left trembling this season by the performances of Troyes striker Adama Niane.

He has smashed home 20 goals in 27 league games for the side who are pushing for promotion to the French top flight.

The Malian joined the club from Nantes in the summer and has been ruthless in front of goal this term.

The 23-year-old is fast, strong and deceptively good in the air – similar in playing style to Chelsea legend Didier Drogba – and Aston Villa would be getting the jump on plenty of big teams if they made a move for him this summer.

Niane looks like a potential future star and Steve Bruce and co would do well to lure him to the Midlands.
