Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst insists that he is not destined to leave the Bundesliga outfit this summer, despite reported interest from Arsenal and Newcastle United, while speaking to De Telegraaf.
Despite hitting 18 and 20 goals in his first two seasons at the Volkswagen Arena, the most prolific Dutch striker around will be watching from home as the Netherlands take on Poland in their opening UEFA Nations League fixture tonight.
Weghorst’s omission certainly came as a surprise when you consider he comfortably outscored Sevilla’s Luuk de Jong this season, even if the latter did net twice in the Europa League final against Inter Milan.
The former AZ Alkmaar target man may have been tempted to seek a move that would raise his profile ahead of the delayed European Championships which are due to kick off in June 2021.
Arsenal and Newcastle were linked with a £32m million swoop by BILD in June. But Weghorst has now made it clear that he is happy leading the line at a Wolfsburg side who qualified for the Europa League last season.

“If there is an offer that makes everyone happy, then there may be something in the future. But it’s not that I have to leave after two years,” says an uber-competitive, late-blooming striker in the form of his life at the age of 28.
In truth, it feels unlikely at present that either Arsenal or Newcastle will step up their interest any time soon.
The Magpies are crying out for a goal-scorer but Weghorst, at £32 million, is far more expensive than the likes of Ollie Watkins and Josh King.
Arsenal, meanwhile, are allegedly trying to raise funds to bring Atletico Madrid’s £40 million powerhouse Thomas Partey to the Emirates.
