Newcastle United kept their hopes of a Premier League top-four finish alive at Nottingham Forest on Friday night.

The Magpies fell behind in the 26th minute after gifting the Reds a gilt-edged opportunity.

Emmanuel Dennis made the most of a Sven Botman error to get himself in a great position to score.

He still had work to do as he got closed down, but he did so in style, chipping into the net from a tight angle.

Newcastle then equalised in first-half injury time, Alexander Isak with an outstanding improvised finish.

Substitute Elliot Anderson thought he had then scored his first senior goal midway through the second half.

However, VAR ruled his effort out for offside.

Nevertheless, Newcastle went on to grab all three points late on.

Moussa Niakhate handled in the box in stoppage time and Isak stepped up to convert from 12 yards out.

‘Great cross for the equaliser’

While Isak was undoubtedly the main man, Joe Willock also deserves credit for his display.

The £80,000-a-week midfielder received the joint second-highest rating from Chronicle Live.

Willock got 9 out of 10 alongside Anderson, with Isak netting a perfect 10.

‘Aside from first half horror miss played a huge part here,’ wrote Lee Ryder.

‘Great cross for the equaliser and helped win the penalty with telling ball into the box in stoppage time.’

Willock also clocked up some good stats, as per Whoscored.

Aside from his assist, the 23-year-old also made two key passes and weighed in with two efforts.

He also completed two dribbles and made three interceptions and two tackles.

All in all, a solid display from Willock, who surely should be in contention for a spot in the England squad in the coming months.
