James Milner has signed a new Liverpool contract, prolonging his Anfield career for yet another season.

The midfielder will stay on Merseyside until 2023, meaning that he’ll be 37 by the time he eventually leaves Jurgen Klopp’s side – barring another contract extension.

Milner could very easily have left Liverpool at the end of the season, and according to The Athletic, he had offers from two Premier League clubs to continue his career elsewhere.

We don’t know the identity of these clubs, but, in our view, it would make a lot of sense if Leeds United were one of the teams in for the veteran midfielder.

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out why a move to Leeds would make sense for the ‘great’ midfielder. The midfielder is a United academy graduate, and he’s a boyhood Leeds fan who was born in Horsforth.

Regardless of his club affiliations, Milner would be a good fit in this Leeds team. The Whites are desperate for midfield reinforcements – Stuart Dallas and Adam Forshaw are out for the foreseeable future, while Mateusz Klich is out of form and Kalvin Phillips’ future is seemingly up in the air.

Milner would add some much-needed grit to this Leeds team. The Whites have lacked a lot of composure on the pitch throughout this campaign, and you have to feel that Milner’s experience, grit and steel would add a much-needed level of balance to Jesse Marsch’s side.

Of course, the two mystery teams ended up missing out on Milner as he’s decided to stay at Liverpool, but it wouldn’t surprise us one bit if it turns out that Leeds were one of the sides chasing Milner over the past few weeks.
