Saido Berahino has been in spectacular form since being linked with Celtic and Rangers, taking his tally to four goals in three friendly games during a 5-0 thrashing of Waasland Beveren.

While a big-money move to Tottenham Hotspur or Manchester United feels like a distant dream of a one-time Premier League sensation, Berahino does appear to be rebuilding his once glittering reputation over in Belgium.

The controversy-courting striker has benefitted immeasurably from stepping out of the limelight.

So much so that, after just one impressive campaign with Zulte Waregam in the Jupiler League, Berahino has been tipped to join one of the biggest and most successful clubs in British football.

TEAMtalk reported in May that Old Firm rivals Celtic and Rangers are willing to offer the former West Brom starlet a fresh start in Glasgow, with Berahino understood to be available for a bargain £2.5 million (Voetbal Nieuws).

The Belgian football season was brought to a premature conclusion in May thanks to the ongoing global health crisis. But Berahino continues to find the net at an impressive rate behind closed doors.

A clinical brace against Beveran means the Burundi international has now scored four times in three games as Zulte Waregam’s preparations for a new, and hopefully uninterrupted, campaign get underway.

Whether Berahino will still be banging in the goals for the Essevee once 2020/21 kicks off remains to be seen.

“The club have had a chat with my agent and say they are going to listen to offers,” the rejuvenated striker told Sky recently.

With a year left on his contract, and with Zulte hit hard by football’s financial crash, Berahino’s Belgian adventure may be cut short very soon.
