Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United want to sign Barcelona winger Raphinha.
That is according to SPORT, which has claimed a potential hurdle for Newcastle in their quest to bring the former Leeds United winger to St. James’ Park.
So, what is being reported about Newcastle United and Barcelona winger Raphinha? Let’s take a look.
What’s the story?
Well, according to SPORT, Newcastle United are interested in signing Raphinha from Barcelona in the summer of 2024.
Newcastle wanted the former Leeds United winger in the summer of 2023, but he did not even want to listen to what the Magpies had to say.
However, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) remain keen on the Brazil international and could try to convince the £198,000-a-week (SalarySport) winger to move to St. James’ Park at the end of the season.
Barcelona themselves could be willing to let go of the 26-year-old if he is unable to improve his performance.
Raphinha has scored two goals and given one assist in nine La Liga matches and has given one assist in two UEFA Champions League games this season.
However, there is a hurdle for Newcastle.
According to SPORT, Chelsea are also keen on Raphinha.
Newcastle United could be able to sign Barcelona winger Raphinha
In my opinion, Newcastle United could be able to sign Raphinha from Barcelona in the summer of 2024.
I believe that if Barcelona themselves are open to selling the winger at the end of the season, then a transfer to Newcastle could happen.
I can understand why Raphinha did not want to leave Barcelona for Newcastle in the summer of 2023.

After all, the winger had played for Barcelona for just one season at the time. He was never going to leave the La Liga club so soon. It was his dream to play for Barca.
However, if Barcelona themselves are ready to cash in on the Brazil international winger, then he could be convinced to move on.
Newcastle are a big and established club in the Premier League who are going places under Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) and manager Eddie Howe.
A move to St’ James’ Park could be appealing to Raphinha, who was a big success during his time at Leeds United. The winger scored 17 goals and gave 12 assists in 65 appearances in the Premier League for the Whites.
