Southampton appear to be another team out of the running for Celtic striker.

Southampton’s move for Argentine striker Guido Carillo appears to be a further blow to Celtic’s Moussa Dembele.

The Guardian reported yesterday that the Saints have agreed a £19.1 million fee with Monaco to sign highly rated Carillo.

This appears to take another team out of the running to sign promising Celtic striker Dembele.

Moussa Dembele celebrates his 2nd goal (Celtic's 4th) during the Betfred Cup Semi-Final at Hampden Park on October 21, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

The Express reported at the end of last month that Dembele was on Celtic’s shortlist as they considered how to spend the money from Virgil van Dijk’s sale.

A move would have made sense too, with Southampton signing three players from Celtic in recent years, Van Dijk, Fraser Forster and Victor Wanyama.

But Dembele is finding it tough to clinch his big move away from Celtic.

The Premier League’s so-called elite clubs have backed off, and Brighton who were also interested decided to move for Jurgen Locadia from PSV Eindhoven instead.

Time is running out for Dembele and the options are narrowing down. He may have to be prepared to simply stay put.
