Davinson Sanchez’s sending off against Watford at the weekend has now landed him with an untimely three-game ban.
This puts Foyth in position to potentially get a run of games, if head coach Mauricio Pochettino feels he is ready.
To date Foyth’s only appearances have come in Tottenham’s brief Carabao Cup run.
Spurs do have alternative options… more opportunities for Eric Dier at centre-back, and moving Ben Davies into a back three and putting Danny Rose at left-back.
Sanchez is available for Champions League action against APOEL in midweek, but as this game is a dead rubber anyway, Spurs must use it to get Foyth a chance.
This will give Pochettino consideration whether to play Foyth in Premier League fixtures against Stoke City and Brighton.
The final game of Sanchez’s suspension is against Manchester City… which will be a true test of Pochettino’s faith in Foyth.
If the young Argentine can impress in the three preceding games, he could have a career changing opportunity against Manchester City, to really prove he can step up.
