Monaco are facing up to the prospect of selling star striker Wissam Ben Yedder this summer, although the Ligue 1 giants are confident they will raise £25 million for the Arsenal and Liverpool target, according to ESPN.
If this former Sevilla and Toulouse forward wasn’t a Frenchman, he would surely have 30, 40 or even 50 international caps under his belt already.
But, with the likes of Olivier Giroud, Antoine Griezmann, Alexandre Lacazette and Alassane Plea also in Didier Deschamps plans, Ben Yedder’s sensational form at club level has never really been translated on to the international stage.
Not that a tally of just eight caps for the France national team should be used as a stick with which to beat one of the most naturally-gifted goal-scorers in Europe. Ben Yedder has hit the target 19 times during an outstanding debut season at Monaco, after scoring 70 times in three prolific years in Seville.
But with Monaco struggling to get to grips with a financial crisis of unprecedented proportions, the Principality club may be forced to cut Ben Yedder’s spell at the Stade Louis II short.
Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked via L’Equipe, and new claims from ESPN state that the diminutive 29-year-old could be sacrificed as Monaco look to raise funds.
The 2017 Ligue 1 champions are, at least, convinced that they will be able to sell for £25 million. That could make Ben Yedder one of the bargains of 2020.
