The 33-year-old, who won the World Cup with France in 2018, has said that he did not join Celtic or Middlesbrough in 2010 and opted for Montpellier instead.
The Scottish Sun quotes Giroud as saying: “Yes, I had contact with Celtic in 2010. I could have played at one of the most magnificent atmospheres in the world at Celtic Park.
“It would also have given me a springboard towards the English Premier League. Middlesbrough, in the Championship, were also interested.”
Successful career
Giroud was a big hit at Montpellier and won the Ligue 1 title with them in 2012 before moving to Arsenal.
The Frenchman was a success at Arsenal as well, as he won the FA Cup on three occasions with the Gunners.
As reported by The Telegraph, the 33-year-old scored 105 goals in 253 games for Arsenal before moving to Chelsea in January 2018 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £18 million.
While the striker has failed to make a massive impact at the Blues, he remans an important option for manager Frank Lampard on the substitutes’ bench.
Giroud scored 11 goals and provided four assists in the Europa League last season to play a key role in Chelsea winning the competition, according to WhoScored.
