Lucas Digne has taken to Instagram to send a eight-word post regarding Richarlison’s brutal tackle on Thiago, just days after the Merseyside derby draw against Liverpool.

The France international uploaded a picture of him holding Michael Oliver’s red card, insinuating that he was taking or hiding it from the referee, and wrote ‘I tried to do my best Pai @richarlison‘ following the Brazilian’s dismissal.

The ex-Fluminense attacker received a late red card from Oliver after flying in dangerously on Thiago’s ankle.

It was a serious tackle, but one that Digne, nor his Everton teammates, seem to be acting especially down over judging by the humorous post.

The likes of Allan, Alex Iwobi, Anthony Gordon and Niels Nkounkou all posted laughing emojis in response to the £18 million ex-Barcelona man’s Instagram post.

The Liverpool midfielder looks set to miss the Reds’ clash with Ajax having sat out training on Tuesday, according to Sky Sports.

Richarlison’s tackle wasn’t the only controversial challenge in the Merseyside derby.

Jordan Pickford has been under the spotlight after causing the injury which damaged Virgil van Dijk’s anterior cruciate ligament.

Some of the reaction to the England glovesman’s tackle has been extremely over the top.

French journalist Julien Laurens suggested on ESPN that Pickford should be banned for as long as the Dutchman is out injured, which is a bizarre statement.

If we were going to do such a thing, then where was Van Dijk’s lengthy ban for playing a part in ex-Toffees winger Gerard Deulofeu cruciate knee ligament rupture back in February?

The Watford Observer revealed that the Spanish forward was forced to live with his physiotherapist during lockdown as a result of the issue.

While tackles such as Richarlison’s cannot be condoned, there’s nothing wrong with Digne having a bit of fun on Instagram after the game.
