Leeds United have made some great signings since they were promoted back to the Premier League.
Raphinha is a star, Diego Llorente looks brilliant when he’s fit, and the same can be said of Robin Koch.
There have been a few poor additions too. Rodrigo doesn’t look worth the fee Leeds paid for him while Helder Costa has already been shipped out on loan one year after his move to Elland Road was made permanent.
However, it seems as though Leeds averted a bit of a crisis with one signing that could have been the worst of the bunch.
Cast your mind back to last summer and you may remember that United almost signed a 21-year-old French midfielder by the name of Michael Cuisance.
Cuisance even went as far as having a medical with Leeds, but for one reason or another, the deal collapsed late on.
Cuisance eventually signed for Marseille on loan, but, as reported by Lo Phoceen at the time, his spell in France was was something of a disaster.
It is said that Marseille thought the 22-year-old is too ‘individualistic’ in training and his attitude rubbed people up the wrong way behind the scenes.
Cuisance may have been described as an ‘outstanding’ player as a youngster, but it seems as though his attitude doesn’t match his talent.
Just imagine if he’d turned up to Leeds with that sort of attitude under Marcelo Bielsa, the Argentine simply wouldn’t have stood for it, and we can imagine Cuisance wouldn’t have gotten much of a chance if he wasn’t willing to commit to the cause. After all, this is Bielsa, the manager who weighs his players every morning to make sure they’re sticking to his fitness regime.
Cuisance eventually returned to Bayern Munich, with Marseille opting not to make his stay permanent, and he’s seemingly stuck in Bavaria.
His attitude seemingly hasn’t improved since returning to Germany. He’s apparently been pulled for a ‘serious’ conversation with Julian Nagelsmann last month after injuring two of his teammates in training and he’s yet to play a league game this season.
Leeds almost spent £18m on Cuisance, but it seems as though the fact this deal fell through last summer was a blessing in disguise.
