Georginio Wijnaldum was faced with boos and jeers by his own fans this weekend in PSG’s Ligue 1 clash against Bordeaux after the French club were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League.
As reported by GFFN’s official Twitter account, the Netherlands international was one of three players subject to boos from PSG supporters as Lionel Messi and Neymar were also taunted and slated by fans at the Parc des Princes.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side suffered a catastrophic result midweek as PSG threw away a 2-0 lead against Real Madrid as Karim Benzema bagged a hat-trick to knock the French giants out of the Champions League, causing unrest amongst supporters over the leadership of the club.
And Wijnaldum, who wasn’t even in the squad for the Champions League for the loss to Madrid, was subject to boos and criticism from the home support, with the 2021 signing failing to adapt to PSG since joining last summer, and the midfielder could be on the move.
According to L’Equipe, the Dutch international could be sold by PSG this summer, with Arsenal and Newcastle United said to be interested in Wijnaldum as per Sky Sports News and the Athletic, and this latest event in Paris could play into the Premier League duo’s hands.
Indeed, Wijnaldum could now be tempted to leave PSG after just a single season following the reception he received from fans this weekend, and with Arsenal and Newcastle interested in the 31-year-old, a return to England could now be possible.
Arsenal & Newcastle should pounce on Wijnaldum after PSG episode

Wijnaldum’s transfer to PSG has been nothing short of a disaster, with the midfielder failing to adapt to Ligue 1 and supporters already turning on the Dutch superstar, and Arsenal and Newcastle could provide an exit route for the former Liverpool dynamo.
With a reported wage of £180,000-a-week, Wijnaldum would be an expensive signing for either Premier League club, yet given his age and previous accolades in the Premier League, the midfielder could be worth the cost for either Arsenal or Newcastle.
