Teenage midfielder Lewis Warrington has been training with Everton’s first team ahead of Monday’s Premier League clash at Brighton and Hove Albion, Carlo Ancelotti has told the Liverpool Echo.
While Aston Villa, Liverpool, Manchester United and co may have something to say about it, there’s a genuine argument to be made that the most prosperous academy in English football right now sits within the royal blue walls of Finch Farm.
Everton U23s have lifted the Premier League 2 title twice in the past four seasons while Joao Virginia, Thierry Small and Tyler Onyango have been rewarded with senior debuts in recent months.
After a series of impressive performances at U18 level, the same fate could soon come Warrington’s way too, with Ancelotti taking a close look at the Birkinhead-born dynamo.
“I think we have a good academy, not only Lewis but there are players training with us a lot of times,” the former Real Madrid and Bayern Munich boss explains.
“I can say our academy is a good academy because we have players with talent. I think we have a good future in that sense.”

A boyhood, blue-blooded Evertonian, Warrington was a season ticket holder at Goodison Park and will be realising a lifelong dream if he steps out on to the Merseyside turf before the end of 2020/21.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo earlier today, Warrington admitted he has been watching clips of Everton’s tough-tackling Brazil international Allan, as well as the likes of Toni Kroos and Joshua Kimmich, as he looks to make good on his potential.
