£18 million Newcastle target Samaris reportedly ready to leave Benfica

Newcastle United wanted to sign Andreas Samaris a year ago, now he is available.

Newcastle United could have a window of opportunity to finally sign Andreas Samaris – if they still want to.

The Sun reported last summer that Rafa Benitez was keen on the Greek international, and was considering a £18 million move.

Samaris stayed put at Benfica… but his time in Portugal appears to be at an end, giving Newcastle a fresh chance.

Portuguese newspaper O Jogo report Samaris has decided his time at Benfica is at an end, and is preparing to leave.

At present Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow are showing an interest, but no deal is in place.

Samaris was used sparingly by Benfica last season, making only 18 league appearances, most of which came from the bench, scoring one goal.

He has played more than 130 games for Benfica over the past four seasons, and has won over 30 caps for his country.

Newcastle may no longer want to sign the Greek star, but if they retain an interest, now is the time to get him.
