Alexandre Lacazette was a transfer target for West Ham in the summer.

Alexandre Lacazette was one of Europe’s most in demand strikers last summer and is likely to be on the radar of clubs again in 2017.

The Frenchman has stayed loyal to Lyon but this could be about to change, with the forward admitting he is seeking a new challenge.

At the weekend he told Eurosport and Canal+: “I think that the right moment has arrived to leave. I think that this summer I will need a change of scenery and discover something else, still with the idea of advancing and progressing in terms of football and as a person. I will continue to work, in the hope that good opportunities will come this summer.”

Dimitri Payet signing is bad news for Tottenham winger

Lacazette has struck 18 Ligue 1 goals in 18 games this season, and his comments should be welcomely received by a host of sides.

One of these should be West Ham, who attempted to sign him last summer.

The Mail reported last summer that the Hammers had a £43 million bid rejected for the forward, but Lyon will find it more difficult to resist this summer with Lacazette declaring he wants out.

Where the Hammers may struggle, is to attract Lacazette, who continued his interview by suggesting Barcelona are his dream club.

Lacazette could have his pick of many European sides, and is likely to plump for one competing for the Champions League.

Yet West Ham’s long standing interest could sway him, as could the experience suffered by Michy Batshuayi at Chelsea, who left Ligue 1 to spend his entire season on the bench.

The Hammers could offer him first team football, and while he may one day have greater ambitions, if West Ham can convince him to sign, he could be the integral figure in helping them start to challenge England’s elite clubs.
