Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Cedric Bakambu.
According to a report from Sport.fr, Tottenham Hotspur have joined West Ham United in the race to sign Villarreal striker Cedric Bakambu.
Bakambu, 26, featured for Sochaux and Bursaspor before heading to Villarreal in the summer of 2015, making an instant impact with 22 goals in his first season for the Spaniards.
After just 12 goals last season, Bakambu has been in sensational form this term, hitting 12 goals in 18 games in all competitions, attracting interest in the process.
Sport.fr report that Crystal Palace and West Ham United have been keeping tabs on the DR Congo international, but London rivals Tottenham Hotspur are also interested now.
It’s claimed that Bakambu could come at a huge price, with a €40million (£35million) asking price on his head with the January transfer window just around the corner.
If Spurs do look to splash the cash on Bakambu, it may just suggest that manager Mauricio Pochettino is already considering other options in attack after Fernando Llorente’s poor start to life in North London.
Llorente has gone 16 games without a goal since his move from Swansea City, and Pochettino may now look to correct that move by pursuing Bakambu as another option behind Harry Kane in attack.
Whereas Llorente is a target man, Bakambu offers a different type of Plan B. Offering speed to get in behind defences, Bakambu can stretch the game, whilst he also has the versatility to play out wide, giving Pochettino various options in attack – if Tottenham do firm up their interest in 2018.
