Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles put in a commanding performance as his side registered a 1-0 win over Rotherham.
The centre-back, who was handed the captaincy by manager Rafa Benitez in the summer, played all 90 minutes of he win at New York Stadium.

Rotherham peppered the Newcastle box with balls into the area, but Lascelles simply pinged them straight back, making a staggering 18 clearances in one game.
It was the most of any Newcastle player in a single game this season, and the second highest of any player in the Championship – topped only by Derby’s Jason Shackell (20).

Yet this was not simply a ‘hoof it and hope’ approach from Lascelles, with the 22-year-old recording an impressive 83 per cent pass completion rate.
After winning against Norwich in dramatic fashion in midweek, it was vital that Newcastle followed up the result with a victory.
The win at Rotherham keeps Rafa Benitez’s side in third place, just three points behind surprise leaders Huddersfield.
