Huddersfield Town boss Carlos Corberan has all-but confirmed the impending departure of West Bromwich Albion target Karlan Grant, telling the Yorkshire Post that the striker is unlikely to be a part of his squad this season.

With the former Leeds United coach looking to put his own stamp on a Terriers team lacking any sort of bark or bite, the last thing he needed was to lose the one man who scored goals regularly in Huddersfield colours last season.

But, to Corberan’s credit, he is not dwelling on the situation, instead putting his focus in the players who will be at his disposal ahead of what already looks like a daunting 2020/21 campaign.

That means Grant, who is ‘desperate’ to join West Brom according to the Mail, will be watching from home as Huddersfield welcome Norwich City to the John Smith’s Stadium for Saturday’s Championship opener.

“The situation with Karlan Grant is exactly the same situation that we had in the last week,” Corberan says of the 22-year-old, who was also nowhere to be seen as the Yorkshire outfit exited the EFL Cup to Rochdale six days ago.

“I prefer to be focused now on the players we are going to have in the league. So the situation with him is not changed in the last week.

“I cannot talk about future because we have not (an update) yet.”

The Mail claims that Grant, who scored 19 league goals last season and nine more than anyone in Slaven Bilic’s squad, is keen to join a West Brom side who have already seen an opening bid rejected.

The Baggies will have to pay £17 million if they want bring in the clinical finisher they are crying out for.
