Napoli stars agent has commented on the reported £17m approach from Arsenal.
Napoli winger Lorenzo Insigne’s agent has claimed they are ‘honoured’ by a reported £17m approach from Arsenal.
But it looks as though Gunners may be disappointed, with his representative also hinting that Napoli are unlikely to sell what they consider one of their best players.
Insigne is currently with the Italian national squad as they prepare to take on England in their opening match of the tournament in just nine days’ time, ruling out the likelihood of a deal being done in the next month.
The 23-year-old’s agent admits Insigne is ‘honoured’ by the approach, but doubts a move will transpire.
“We take into account the praising reports that Wenger has given about the player,” Insigne’s representative Antonio Ottaiano told www.tuttomercatoweb.com.
“We are honoured that a club like Arsenal could have Lorenzo on their wish list.
“However, from here to take it to the next level, that is a possible transfer, there is a huge mountain in between named Napoli.
“The club consider him without a shadow of a doubt as one of their cardinal players for their ambitious project.
“Hence, as of today, I don’t see that there can be any further developments unless Arsenal speak to Napoli directly and Napoli change their view on Lorenzo’s role here.”
Insigne would bring speed and technical ability in abundance to the Emirates were Arsenal able to strike a deal with the Italian outfit. The Italian would add to the already high-quality attacking midfielders of Mesut Ozil, Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey at the club.
But his agents comments look to have put a dampener on the move, with Napoli manager Rafael Bentiez considering the youngster too valuable.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger managed to get a good look at Insigne in the group stages of last season’s Champions League, with the Italian featuring in both the home and away legs for Napoli.
