Newcastle lost Bobby Clark to Liverpool in August 2021 as the Reds struck a £1.5m agreement with the Magpies.
The 17-year-old was one of the most highly rated prospects on Tyneside, but clearly felt disillusioned with life under Mike Ashley and Steve Bruce, as many Newcastle fans did.
Clark – son of Newcastle fan favourite Lee Clark – is now starting to settle in at Anfield, where he caught the eye in a friendly against AC Milan yesterday with a stunning pass to £85m man Darwin Nunez.
What’s the story?
Well, the teenager was given some game time as Liverpool defeated AC Milan 4-1 in a friendly on Friday.
As you can see below, Clark provided an outrageous assist for Nunez with one of the most well-weighted passes we have ever seen.
After the game, Jürgen Klopp described the Newcastle-born wonderkid as a “really interesting” prospect, while some journalists also waxed lyrical over his ability.
One journalist – Ross Gregory, who works for the Chronicle – even hopped onto Twitter to suggest that it “could be a Carrick/Shearer-esque mistake” from Newcastle to have lost Clark.
Famously, the Magpies let Michael Carrick and Alan Shearer slip through their fingers at academy level, and we could be seeing a repeat of that error now with Clark.
Klopp even handed Clark his Premier League debut earlier this season, giving him seven minutes of action in Liverpool’s 9-0 win over Bournemouth at Anfield.
