West Ham’s under-21 side produced a stunning comeback to beat Newport County in the EFL Trophy last night.

The Hammers scored first through 20-year-old forward Josh Scully, before Newport hit back. And how did they.

The Welsh side took West Ham apart over the rest of the first half to move into a 4-1 lead.

It seemed like it could get out of hand for the Hammers.

Credit to West Ham, they came out in the second half looking like a different team, and were not prepared to let the scoreline get out of hand.

Joe Powell won and then scored a penalty, before 17-year-old striker Veron Parkes made his own impact.

The former Crystal Palace trainee headed in a cross to pull West Ham to within just one goal of their opponents.

It was then up to substitute Kai Corbett, 16, to score an equaliser to set up a frantic final few minutes and tie the game at 4-4.

With the game entering it’s final moments Josh Scully scored a winner to spark wild celebrations among the Hammers side, to clinch a remarkable 5-4 victory.

The EFL Trophy is a competition which has been criticised for its decision to let Premier League sides enter their academy teams into.

But try telling this West Ham side it is worthless after last night.
