Leeds talent Alfie McCalmont has been recognised by Northern Ireland.
Leeds United youngster Alfie McCalmont has been called up by Northern Ireland’s under-19 squad for the first time.
The 17-year-old midfielder was named in the squad yesterday and expressed his excitement on social media at the call.
McCalmont joined Leeds United’s academy when he was 14 and signed a scholarship deal in April 2016.
He was congratulated on Twitter by several of his Leeds under-18 teammates.
McCalmont has a long way to go in order to establish himself in the first team at Leeds, but this is a positive early step for his career, and a real confidence boost.
First team midfielder Ronaldo Vieira has also been called into the England under-20 squad, following on from impressive performances for them at this summer’s Toulon tournament.
Vieira’s rise to prominence at Leeds should act as encouragement fr McCalmont that if he keeps progressing, making the grade is very possible.
