RCD Espanyol are reportedly interested in signing Celtic defender Josip Juranovic, with FC Barcelona and Newcastle United also chasing the Croatian international.

According to AS, the 16th-place La Liga side are keeping tabs on Juranovic, who is expected to leave Celtic in January following an impressive 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign with the European nation, where the right-back claimed a third-place medal.

The competition could not have gone any better for Celtic, who have now placed a £17m price tag for Juranovic as reported by the Daily Record, with Newcastle chasing the fullback as well as Barcelona according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

And now, to what many would consider a surprise, Espanyol have entered the conversation to sign Juranovic despite the La Liga side’s current position in the Spanish top-flight and how unappealing their pull might be compared to other interested clubs.

Indeed, with Celtic already signing a right-back ahead of the January transfer window in Alistair Johnston, selling Juranovic for a massive profit will be quite the move from the Hoops, and Espanyol’s interest in the defender will only add to the fuel of the fullback leaving next month.

Whilst there is a small chance in Espanyol signing Juranovic, the Spanish club’s interest will only spur the likes of Newcastle to increase their interest for the 27-year-old right-back, much to the enjoyment of Celtic ahead of Janaury.

Newcastle’s hunt for a fullback in January could begin and end with Juranovic given how ideal the Celtic star would be for Eddie Howe’s side. And with Espanyol now interested in the defender, the Magpies must be thinking about moving for the Croatian international.

After all, Espanyol could be confident in their interest to sign Juranovic, and for Newcastle, they must see this update as a reason to move for the World Cup superstar, who could be quite the addition for the Premier League hopefuls.
