Arsenal defender Calum Chambers wants to leave, with AS Roma interested, according to Corriere Dello Sport (print edition, page 17, November 12, 2021).

What’s the story?

It has been reported by the Italian news outlet that Chambers wants to leave Arsenal in the January transfer window.

The 26-year-old, who can play as a centre-back or as a right-back, is struggling for playing time at Arsenal at the moment.

The £16 million signing from Southampton in 2014 (BBC Sport) has made two appearances each in the Premier League and the Carabao Cup so far this season.

Intermediaries have reportedly offered Chambers to Roma.

And Roma manager Jose Mourinho is open to signing the Englishman.

January exit makes sense

Chambers is out of contract at Arsenal in the summer of 2022.

It is very unlikely that the Gunners will hand him a new deal now.

In our view, it would make sense for Arsenal to sell the defender in the January transfer window.

The Premier League club could get some transfer fee.

And the defender himself could start a new chapter in his career.

Chambers is 26 now, and his best years are ahead of him.
