Reported Liverpool target Frenkie de Jong has doubts over a move to Manchester United despite having worked with Erik ten Hag, according to journalist Miguel Delaney’s Reading the Game newsletter in The Independent.
Well-known and well-respected journalist Delaney has reported that despite working with new Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax, the Netherlands international midfielder is not sure if the Red Devils are in a position to win major trophies now.
United’s bitter rivals Liverpool have been linked with a move for the the £164,000-a-week (SalarySport) midfielder in the summer transfer window.
Sport reported in February 2022 that Liverpool are keen on signing De Jong from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
Delaney wrote in his Reading the Game newsletter in The Independent: “While Manchester United’s interest in Frenkie de Jong has by now been widely reported, it goes beyond being a target.
“Erik ten Hag is willing to build a midfield around his former Ajax passer. This is a message that has been conveyed to De Jong, although he still has some doubts about going to Old Trafford.
“It is going to take a lot more to convince him, as the 25-year-old wants to be at clubs who can win now. “

Frenkie de Jong’s Manchester United stance boost for Liverpool
In our view, Frenkie de Jong’s reported views regarding Manchester United are a boost to Liverpool’s chances of signing him in the summer transfer window.
Yes, Manchester United are a big club, but Liverpool are ‘in the moment’ and are winning trophies and are really a very appealing club to play for.
The Red Devils are venturing on yet anther rebuild, while Liverpool could win the Champions League again under Klopp this weekend.
If Barcelona are willing to sell De Jong, then Liverpool would find it easier than United to sign him.
