Tottenham talent Oliver Skipp is the latest to be singled out for praise.
Tottenham’s Harry Winks in action with Gillingham’s Josh Wright
Tottenham’s academy demonstrated it’s relentless ability to produce top quality players this weekend as midfielder Harry Winks scored on his Premier League debut.
The England under-21 international netted in the dramatic 3-2 win over West Ham, and like Harry Kane’s achievements before him, his goal will act as inspiration to those hoping to follow in his footsteps.
A player who could one day do so is Tottenham under-18 ace Oliver Skipp, who has featured in the under-19s UEFA Youth League this season.
Skipp is just 16-years-old and like Winks is a central midfielder, who is comfortable in possession and willing to get forward.
He was in action for Tottenham’s under-18 side at the weekend as they beat West Ham 2-1, with Jack Roles and Kazaiah Sterling on the scoresheet.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino with head of coaching and development John McDermott during training
His performance was lauded by Tottenham head of development John McDermott, who told the club’s official website:
“I thought Oliver Skipp was outstanding, he played with a knowledge beyond his years.”
McDermott also praised forward Reo Griffiths’ constant threat, although suggested that as a team, he felt the side had plenty more to offer than they showed.
Like Harry Winks, Oliver Skipp is an England youth international, representing the Three Lions five times at England under-16 level.
Skipp only turned 16 in September, and will hope to sign professional terms with the club next season.
For Tottenham fans he should be one of a number of names to look out for in future years, in the knowledge that if he proves good enough, he will get his chance in the first team one day under youth-centric coach Mauricio Pochettino.
