Everton have spent big over the past two summers as they scour the world for top players who can improve their side.

Yet there would be nothing better than if an elite talent could come through their academy and crack the first team.

One top prospect is 17-year-old goalscoring machine Ellis Simms.

Simms signed a scholarship deal with Everton last year after leaving Manchester City’s academy and having a brief stint with Blackburn.

Going off his early season form for Everton’s under-18 side, the Toffees are very lucky to have him.

This season his goalscoring record is phenomenal.

In nine games for the under-18s, Simms has a staggering 16 goals.

He is the leading scorer in the Premier League under-18 league, five clear of Manchester United youngster Mason Greenwood.

A highlight was a four goal haul in a 6-0 win against Blackburn last month, highlighting Rovers’ mistake not to pin him down.

At the weekend he scored two in a 4-2 win over Derby, with Everton’s official website praising the young striker’s ‘pace and power’.

The first team is a long way off for the teenager, who will have to prove himself first at under-23 level.

So far, Simms is doing absolutely everything asked of him and more, and he is an exciting name to watch who all Everton fans should be keeping a close eye on.
