Crysencio Summerville sees those Aston Villa links as proof of his progress but insists that his sole focus is on helping Leeds United return to the Premier League.

If the dazzling Dutchman was feeling the pressure of performing under incessent transfer rumours, then he’s certainly not showing it.

Crysencio Summerville is not only Leeds United’s stand-out performer right now but an obvious candidate for the Championship’s Player of the Year award. With 16 in 32, the winger is averaging a goal every other game in the second-tier, and that is without mentioning the nine assists he has laid on for his grateful Elland Road team-mates.

Crysencio Summerville in stunning Leeds United form

Putting up numbers like this, it is no surprise Summerville is attracting interest from the division above. Fabrizio Romano reports that Aston Villa have been tracking the silky 22-year-old for a while now, while Leeds rejected Burnley’s £20 million bid out of hand late last summer.

And, when those Aston Villa rumours were brought up during an interview with Voetbal Primeur, Summerville was keen to point out that he sees them as a compliment, though nothing will distract him from his number one priority with Leeds chasing down an automatic promotion spot.

“I get a few things here and there when friends and family send me articles. I don’t look at it (too much) myself. I’m a boy who first works harder and only looks at it later,” Summerville explains.

“When I have a meeting with my agents, I hear some things here and there. I think that’s nice to hear. It indicates that I’m on the right track, that things are going well.

“For now, I’m focusing on our goal and that is to put Leeds back where they belong. The Premier League. In the meantime, I don’t want any distractions.”

Aston Villa and Burnley keen

Sunday lunchtime’s 2-0 win at Plymouth Argyle was Leeds’ eighth in a row in league action.

Even the most optimistic Leeds supporter would have to admit, however, that missing out on promotion would be highly damaging to their hopes of holding onto Summerville, the former Feyenoord starlet proving himself to be a big fish in a small second-tier pond.
