Report West Ham target Taty Castellanos has been named New York City FC’s MVP of the season, becoming the youngest recipient of the award in the club’s history.
The Pidgeon’s confirmed the news on their official website following a historic year for the franchise. City won their first piece of silverware in MLS Cup, with the New York side beating the Portland Timbers in a dramatic penalty shootout.
And Castellanos was key to the run. The Argentine forward ended the season as MLS’s top goalscorer with 24 goals and eight assists in both the regular season and during the play-offs. And a move to Europe looks likely.
The forward was this week named the club’s Player of the Year, with previous recipients of the awards ranging from Spain legend David Villa and former Bundesliga midfielder Alexander Ring. Yet at 23-years-old, Castellanos is by far the youngest winner.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News, West Ham are believed to have enquired about signing Castellanos, with the Turkish giants Besiktas also interested in a move for the Argentine.
As per the report, NYCFC value the striker at around £15m, and a January move is more than likely given Catellanos’ form in 2021. Moreover, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is a fan of the forward.
West Ham should be going all out for Castellanos
Guardiola said about Castellanos via the Manchester Evening News: “I think he is a guy who will do the next step in Europe. I know he is a quality player and I think he is ready to make the next step to Europe.”
With such high praise from one of modern football’s greatest minds, West Ham should be leading the charge for Castellanos, who could solve the club’s striker problems heading into 2022 and the knockout stages of the UEFA Europa League.
