Serhou Guirassy was left out of the Rennes squad this weekend as Premier League outfit Everton hold talks with the Ligue 1 centre-forward, as reported by Ouest France.
Another game without Dominic Calvert-Lewin, another defeat to Frank Lampard’s Everton. On Saturday afternoon, the Toffees came unstick yet again in the absence of their totemic number nine; ‘The Anthony Gordon as a number nine experiment’ failing to yield the required results, while the prospect of Solomon Rondon being introduced as an impact sub is hardly something that will get opposition defenders waking up in cold sweats.
Fortunately, there is a solution to Everton’s striker problem. A 6ft 2ins, fairly free-scoring solution.
Everton in talks to sign Rennes striker Serhou Guirassy
Everton might not have completed the signing of Serhou Guirassy by the end of the week – amid claims from L’Equipe that they had hoped to do just that – but things are certainly heading in the right direction.
The £15 million-rated Guirassy was even left out of Rennes’ squad during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Monaco. There’s no injury to speak of either.
A fully fit player left at home? That usually means one thing when transfer talk is afoot. And, if the rumours are true, Rondon’s days could be numbered on Merseyside.
“No, (leaving Guirassy out) was a choice,” says head coach Bruno Genesio; A cryptic clue if there ever was one.
Formerly of Amiens and Lille and almost-constantly linked with a move across the Channel, Guirassy is reportedly keen on a £15 million switch to Goodison Park. Another rangy targetman, the France-born Guinea international fits the mould too, as far as Everton strikers are concerned.
What’s more, Guirassy has scored an impressive 28 goals during the last three Ligue 1 campaigns, split between Rennes and Amiens.
“A number of clubs in England and across Europe have shown an interest in Serhou after he performed so well for Amiens,” his agent said back in 2020. “Serhou’s preference has always been to play in the English Premier League.”
Everton are also reportedly keen on Sasa Kalajdzic and Ludovic Ajorque; Two more battering ram beanpole types. Southampton, meanwhile, insist Che Adams won’t be going to Goodison Park on loan.
