Douglas Luiz has posted on his Instagram story ‘stay strong’ as pressure mounts on Steven Gerrard’s managerial job at Aston Villa.

On Sunday, Villa suffered yet another defeat in the Premier League, this time a 2-0 loss to Graham Potter’s Chelsea, although the performance was far better than what the Midlands side have previously dished out.

Despite that, it’s not going to save Gerrard’s job if he continues down this current road because they are sitting one point above the Premier League’s relegation zone.

Since that defeat, talk has increased that Villa might be looking to boot Gerrard out of the door, but in the meantime, he has to prepare the team for their trip to the capital where they will take on Marco Silva’s free-scoring Fulham on Thursday night.

The games won’t stop there because Villa will then welcome Brentford to B6 on Sunday. If they drop points at Fulham, then the atmosphere inside the stadium might just indicate how fans truly feel about Gerrard, that’s if he is still there.

There has been talk that Mauricio Pochettino will be the man Villa will target, if Gerrard leaves, but given that the team isn’t in Europe, then it’s going to be a tough task to convince him to join.

LUIZ ONE OF VILLA’S BETTER PLAYERS

It only wasn’t until Boubacar Kamara got injured, did Luiz start playing on a regular basis for Villa this season.

That left fans baffled because, amongst the dross that has been produced by the team, the £15 million man (Sky Sports), has looked like one of his side’s better players.

And it would have delighted them when he signed a new contract recently, one of the very few positives to come out of the club.

Either way, he should start again on Thursday as Gerrard needs that all-important win to save his stuttering job.
