Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur attacker Steven Bergwijn could still join Ajax this summer.
A move to Amsterdam was heavily mooted for the out-of-favour Lilywhites winger during the January transfer window.
However, nothing materialised and the former PSV Eindhoven star remains on the fringe of Antonio Conte’s plans at Spurs.
Romano, speaking to his Here We Go podcast, said: “Ajax are still interested in him. They wanted him in January. It was a long negotiation. Then everything changed but they are still thinking about Bergwijn for the summer.”

The Netherlands international has already proven himself empatically in the Eredivisie, hence why Spurs paid £27 million [BBC Sport] to sign him a little over two years ago.
And although he might not be good enough for the Premier League, he will still surely want to test himself in a higher division than what the Netherlands can offer right now.
His goals during the international break underline that Bergwijn remains a very good player and perhaps a move to Spain, Italy or Germany would appeal to him.
One thing we know is that he has no future at Tottenham, despite scoring in the victory over Newcastle United this past weekend.
Italian manager Conte clearly has no long-term plan for him and we know that Bergwijn was upset by the club’s decision to sack Nuno Espirito Santo last year [The Athletic].
Leaving Tottenham seems definite, but a return to Dutch football would be a step backwards for him.
