Salomon Rondon has revealed to The Mirror that he’d jump at the chance to sign for Newcastle United again.

The Magpies seem to be on the brink of a new era as The Daily Mail report that a Saudi-led group could complete a £300 million takeover at some point in the next week.

As a result, Newcastle are being linked to a lot of big-name players, including Philippe Coutinho and Edinson Cavani.

The St James’s Park club definitely need a new striker for the 2020-21 campaign after Joelinton flopped in a big way during his first season in the North East following a £40 million switch last summer.

Rondon enjoyed an excellent season-long loan with Newcastle for the 2018-19 season, scoring 11 Premier League goals – a decent return for a relegation-threatened team.

And the Venezuela international, who now earns £8 million per year with Chinese side Dalian Pro [The Telegraph], has revealed that he wouldn’t hesitate to go back to St James’s if they came knocking.

He told The Mirror: “If you ask me again if I want to come back then of course. I have no doubt about going back to Newcastle.

“My priority now is in China and we will see what happens with the virus and the league. But if you give me the chance to come back then I will take it.

This will excite some Newcastle fans, but others might feel as if it’s time for fresh and younger blood.

Rondon was a popular figure, but the reality is that he turns 31 in September and United are simply going to need a younger centre-forward.

There’s nothing wrong with experience, but he earns the equivalent of £153,000 per week at the moment and it just wouldn’t be a good investment, even with the new owners.
