West Bromwich Albion are reportedly keen on signing the Newcastle United forward.
Baggies boss Alan Pardew has made no secret of his desire to bolster his attacking options at the Hawthorns this month, with his side’s impotency in front of goal hampering their chances of avoiding the drop this season.
One of his key targets is Magpies hitman Aleksandar Mitrovic, according to the Sun, with Newcastle willing to do business at around £15 million.
Whilst the Serbian striker possesses undoubted talent, his failure to establish himself at St James’ Park should serve as a warning to West Brom that he is perhaps not cut-out for the robust nature of the Premier League.
The 23-year-old joined Newcastle from Anderlecht in the summer of 2015, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £14.5 million, but has managed to score just 17 goals in 72 appearances in all competitions.
Mitrovic moved to Tyneside under the weight of heavy expectation, but has failed to live up to his potential, although it could be argued that he has not been given ample opportunity to prove himself since Rafa Benitez took over at St James’ Park.
For a club like West Brom though, £15 million is a lot of money, and it would represent a huge risk for them to bring the Magpies man to the Hawthorns, especially when they would have to sell arguably their best player in Jonny Evans to acquire the funds needed to make the transfer happen.
Mitrovic could turn out to be the Baggies’ saviour, but with the Black Country’s current situation, he just seems to be too much of a risk for them, and maybe a cheaper, more proven commodity, someone like Benik Afobe, would be the better option for Pardew.
