Halil Dervisoglu’s move away from Brentford seems to have hit a potential stumbling block.
According to Turkish outlet Hurriyet, Halil Dervisoglu’s move from Brentford to Besiktas could be in danger of falling through, due to the player’s wage demands.
Besiktas have been clear with Dervisoglu that his salary expectations must match with the club’s existing financial structure, apparently telling the 23-year-old that, “in Beşiktaş , local players earn 400-500 thousand Euros. If we give you the money you want, the salary balance will be broken. You need to reduce your annual wage. Think and make your decision.”
Dervisoglu needs a move this summer, as he has failed to make the breakthrough at the Gtech Community Stadium since joining the English club in 2019. The forward has since made just one Premier League appearance. However, he did score for Brentford in their recent pre-season friendly with Boreham Wood.

What next for Halil Dervisoglu?
A switch to Besiktas would be ideal for Dervisoglu. He would likely get far more regular game time with the Turkish side, which is exactly what the 15-cap Turkey international needs at this stage in his career. He did manage to impress and feature regularly whilst on loan with Galatasaray during the 2021/22 campaign. He spent last season on loan with Burnley but struggled for game time at Turf Moor.
However, there are few amongst us who would willingly accept such a significant pay cut, which casts doubt over the viability of this transfer. Perhaps, then, another loan move is on the cards, unless Dervisoglu accepts Besiktas’ demands following their ultimatum, or Brentford can find another buyer willing to match the player’s current salary.
