Unfortunately for Liverpool, it looks like Enzo Fernandez to Chelsea might only be a matter of time.
In December, the Reds were reported to have triggered the Argentina international’s £106 million release clause at Benfica.
That appeared to be wide of the mark but it would seem as if Liverpool are genuinely in contention to sign the 21-year-old, though Chelsea, at this stage, might be favourites.
Earlier this week, Fabrizio Romano revealed that negotiations between the Blues and Portuguese outfit were ‘really advanced’ for the star, who cost only £15.8 million in 2022.
And if that wasn’t ominous enough for Liverpool’s chances, the Italian journalist has now revealed on Twitter that the player wants to join Chelsea.

Enzo Fernandez to Chelsea?
It looks that way but don’t rule out Jurgen Klopp, though.
Remember how fast the Cody Gakpo deal was announced?
It went from the consesus being Manchester United were in advanced discussions, to PSV Eindhoven announcing that actually Liverpool had an offer accepted by the Dutch outfit.
The Reds have a way in which to get big deals done relatively off the radar and for all we know, Klopp and his people are working in the background to win the Fernandez race.
If Romano is right, then Chelsea are his first option but don’t be surprised if there’s another twist in this one shortly.
