CSKA Moscow talisman Nikola Vlasic admits he expects to move on in the “near future” after Slaven Bilic told Index he wants to sign the Croatia international for West Bromwich Albion.

While Everton are expected to spend about £70 million on three midfielders before the week is out, with Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure and James Rodriguez all Merseyside-bound, the Toffees could have saved themselves a penny or two if they had persisted with Vlasic instead.

The 22-year-old was handed only 12 Premier League appearances before Everton cashed in, selling the former Hajduk Split starlet to CSKA Moscow last summer.

To say Vlasic has shown the Premier League giants what they’re missing would be an understatement.

The dynamic attacker produced 13 goals and seven assists last season, being named the best foreign player in Russia as a result. He has started 2020/21 with three goals and two assists in four games.

With interest rising from abroad, Vlasic’s time at CSKA may be coming to an end sooner rather than later.

“There are always stories (about my future) – some true, some not – and I am surprised when I read something!” he said.

“A transfer is always an option. Let’s say, I expect (to leave) in the near future. Of course I want to progress but at the moment the contract binds me with CSKA (until 2024).”

Speaking to Index HR recently, West Brom boss Bilic expressed his desire to sign another highly rated Croatian youngster after missing out on goalkeeper Ivo Grbic to Atletico Madrid.

“I would like to sign (Vlasic),” Bilic said. “But, of course, Moscow would want serious money. Zenit offered a lot for him. Napoli too.

“When you ask me who I would like to sign, he is the one. Young and modern players like Vlasic. I would be happiest if I could sign Nikola.”

CSKA paid £14 million for Vlasic last year and you can guarantee they would demand a sizeable profit.
