Eric García has been speaking to SPORT about his contract with Manchester City, amid interest from Mikel Arteta and Arsenal.

The 20-year-old’s contract expires in June, and he’s now confirmed that he won’t be signing a new deal with Pep Guardiola’s side.

SPORT claim that he is expected to join Barcelona, although there is hope for Arsenal as the 4-cap Spain international didn’t directly address talk regarding the Spanish giants.

Back in December, The Sun revealed that Arteta was keeping tabs on García’s situation, as he hopes to bring him to the Emirates Stadium.

Now the defender has confirmed he will definitely not be staying at the Etihad Stadium, there is hope for Arsenal.

The centre-back was born in Barcelona, so it will presumably be tough to convince him to stay in England if his heart is set on returning.

However, Arteta worked with García in Manchester, so depending on their relationship, who knows if the Gunners boss is capable of turning his head.

Arsenal must move quickly, as the way things stand, the £14,423-a-week man can negotiate a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club.

If Arteta is still keen, he must start trying to convince García now, if he hasn’t already done so.
