Morgan Schneiderlin put in a dominant performance for Manchester United against CSKA Moscow.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal was criticised after not starting Morgan Schneiderlin against Arsenal as the Red Devils were blown away 3-0 at The Emirates.

In the two subsequent games, the Dutchman has not repeated the same mistake, making sure the Frenchman has been in the line-up.

Schneiderlin scored his first goal for the club in the away win over Everton at the weekend, and against CSKA Moscow last night he controlled the midfield.

He touched the ball a staggering 142 times, more than any player on the pitch. Midfield partner Ander Herrera was not far behind either managing 129 touches, while Antonio Valencia managed 111.

Schneiderlin and Herrera both completed 94 per cent of their passes, and Valencia 91 per cent, and given their dominance in possession (68.8 per cent), it is disappointing for United they did not win the game, drawing 1-1 instead.

Schneiderlin’s efforts place him in elite company compared with fellow midfielders in the Champions League this season, with Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos topping the single game statistics.

The midfielder is still growing into his role at United, and while Louis van Gaal may look for a different approach in home games, he surely seems undroppable ahead of the derby against Manchester City this weekend.
